Norwegian Adventures

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday!

We spent the past weekend in Fredrikstad, Norway as you saw on Instagram. My husband has a “nonna” or Norwegian Nana, Kirsti, (a.k.a. his grandfather’s cousin) who lives there. She generously had us stay in her beautiful house for the weekend.

My husband’s family has roots in Fredrikstad which is a small town about 2 hours south of Oslo.

There is a river that runs through and an “old town” which we visited on Sunday. In fact, his nonna has cool family relics like bibles passed down for generations.

Here are some highlights from our trip:

One of our first meals was a big bowl o’ shrimp that was caught that morning and cooked on the boat.

Reidar, Kirsti’s husband, lined up his shrimp shells so neatly (we made a mess of our shells). It was the sweetest, freshest shrimp I’ve ever had.

We also had a Norwegian ring cake during the weekend, it was soooo good.

We enjoyed the beautiful scenery all weekend. Friday was rainy when we arrived and Saturday also ended up being a rainy day. We did get a great driving tour of Fredrikstad and the surrounding area courtesy of Kirsti and Reidar.

Sunday was beautiful so we went to the “old town.” You can walk to downtown and then take a FREE ferry to the old town.

The old town was really cool. There were all kinds of shops and restaurants and cool buildings to look at.

We will definitely be back to Norway to visit the family again! It’s such beautiful country and it was nice to see and stay with family.
